The Penelope Tree

I just have to share an amazing, beautiful and heartwrenching blog with you...
I have met Rebecca once a long time ago...when her babies were just that and the world of Autism was barely a shadow on the horizon.

Hi Karen--
I have really enjoyed your posts. I took the jane austen quiz and was emma. fun!

I wanted to comment on a post awhile back, but was afraid you might not find it, since it was a few weeks ago, I think. It was the post about what Ma Ingalls would do...high ideals vs sanity, i think you called it.

I was watching Little House with my daughter this week, and it came to the episode where Mr. Edwards steps in to take care of the girls so Ma and Pa can get a second Honeymoon.

At one point, Mr Edwards ties Carrie to a post so he can do the laundry. And another time he nails her dress to the roof so he can fix a hole in it.

I love this episode! and it seems more realistic to me than the limited time we see the girls with Ma. They seems to do everything she does and obey quickly. They don't seem to get bored or to foloow Ma around, undoing what she's done.

I think if she lived in our era, with younger kids who DO follow us around undoing what we've done, a little wholesome DVD-watching would be her modus operandi. In other words, I think we should limit our kid's watching time, but not feel guilty for controlled watching. Does that make sense?

Just some thoughts...

oh yea...and Berenstain Bears is a definite must.

Keep writing!
